Lots to do and eggs too

There is always loads to do at this time of the year on a smallholding what with clearing up in the garden, preparing beds, sowing seeds, and planting but this year with the new shed and plans for the Big Green Shed markets and events project too its been particularly hectic. At least the wonderful weather has been a help, as we have been able to get outside and onto the garden. However like everywhere, we too have had almost no rain for weeks and the clay soil has already begun to crack as it dries up! Not so on our raised beds though, they have been mulched and are in great condition and warmed up by the sun, the seedlings will shoot off in them!
The Call ducks have laid hundreds of eggs but in spite of my best efforts with a camoflage net they are not convinced they should be sitting on their nests, so I have taken 20 eggs and they are now in the incubator and hopefully we will get some chicks by about 21st April.

Busy Spring !

Its been the most fabulous warm, dry and sunny few days. Neil has got all the second early spuds in and done more work on preparing the other beds. Gill has made a big batch of Seville marmalade ready for all those breakfasts and is now going to get on with a load more seed sowing.
The ground is really dry, don't think I can ever remember the top field, where our pony Flicker lives, not being muddy in March!
New shed is looking great, Now just got to get insulation finished so that we can get 'The Big Green Shed' cleared and ready for its new floor.
The call ducks must have laid 100 eggs between them in several houses in the hen pen, so I need to get up the camoflage nets so they feel secure enough to sit on their nests and hatch them out!

Live and Kicking

Well our new site is now live, thanks to Paul, it is still work in progress but we will be working on this over the next few weeks. However, I can now update our news on a regular basis and spring special offers will be appearing very soon.
Neil has been very busy on the new shed and it is all coming together really well now, its going to be great!
Garden chores have been rather put to one side but we will have to concentrate on them now or there won't be any lovely produce for the summer. I have started to sow and the tomatoes are all up and looking very healthy.
